PSALM 91

1. Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty:
Most translations say secret place of the Most High. It is called the secret place because it is the exclusive home of children of God. I have noticed that the more I know, love, understand and walk with God, the better I understand what this secret place is. It is faith and knowledge and revelation that give us access to this secret place. Some people may buy a house and have the key to open the house and still be sleeping under a bridge. A person can accept Christ or know God but not dwell in the secret place. That's why the Bible emphasizes the dwelling part. The Bible says we should draw closer to God and He will draw closer to us. In this secret place, there are also several rooms. The more we feed ourselves with the word of God, the better we understand our dwelling place and have access to all the rooms. A person may dwell in the secret place and not know that it is God's will that we live in health and prosper. The person may live his whole life in the living room of God's secret place and not know that the next room is where health and prosperity are locked in.
Most High tells us that God is above all things. Untouchable..
The shadow of the Most High. You must be in close proximity with something for its shadow to be cast over you. In the same way, you can't dwell under the shadows of God if you are not close to God.

2.  I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
Here we can see that the writer is speaking from a place of confidence. He trusts God. All scripture is breathed from God. Everything in the Bible has an invisible "surely" attached to it because Gods word cannot return to Him void. So, when the writer says "surely" in addition to the “surely” that is already attached to God's word you know that He has a very deep understanding of who God is to Him and also that God is trying to emphasise something to us.
The fowler’s snare is meant to trap a bird but God will "surely" save you and cover you with His wings. Isaiah 40:31 says that those that put their hope in the Lord shall renew their strength and soar as high as eagles. That is enough to piss the devil off. But God is promising us that any trap that is set to clip our wings will not work. Notice how He says that He will cover us with His wings. We will still fly despite any attempt of the enemy. The added bonus is that it will be under God's wings.

3. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.
I like how the writer breaks everything down. Telling us that surely day and night there is evil lurking around. However, we will not be afraid of them. He speaks boldly because he is speaking from his dwelling: the secret place. When you dwell there you have the freedom and the audacity to start studying how the enemy works. This tells us how predictable and unoriginal the devil is. It's like looking out from a well-guarded palace or walking around with the best army around you. You will observe all sorts but even the things you are observing will not dare harm you. That's how he knows that he has no reason to be afraid. Even if he has listed all the things that should make human beings afraid.

4. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.
This mirrors what I said earlier. Harm will not come near you. The enemy knows that it will not cross boundaries that have been set by God.

5.  If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.
I like how these verses let us know that we are the ones that make the Lord our dwelling place. We have been given the choice and it’s up to us to choose God. We need to be intentional about making the secret place of the Most High our dwelling place. Spending time with God makes us more comfortable with Him.

6. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
You can't be the child of a mortal king and not have protection. It is impossible to be a child of the King of Kings and not have guards.

7. You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
He has given us authority over all creatures and all principalities and powers.

8 “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honour him. With long life, I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”
These verses are self-explanatory. God will always reward those that love Him and diligently serve and seek Him.
