Walking by a Leading of The Holy Spirit
1 Corinthians 1: 17 ”Since that was my purpose do you think I lightly changed my mind? Or that my plans are based on ordinary human promptings..."
In this Scripture above, Paul is discussing his decision to not go visit the Corinthians. What really strikes me about this verse is his revelation that even a decision as small as taking a trip to go about His God-given assignment still has to be vetted by God.
We may not think of it in that way, but to put it in our context; it's kind of like waking up in the morning and asking God if you should go on an official trip for a Job you know God has blessed you with. How wild? But Paul does it anyway because he understands the value of being led by the Spirit of God every step of the way.
A lot of times, when we feel God has led us into a specific place, relationship or season of our lives, we get complacent and tune off from God's instructive frequency. We figure that He's called us into those things so what can possibly go wrong... the answer? E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G! We have a father who desires constant fellowship with us, so when he sends us on an assignment, He tells us just enough to get us through specific timeframes. Why? Because He never intended for you to stop seeking His face or to stop walking in close fellowship with Him. Even if He gave us the whole blueprint, we would still need His strength, His grace and His wisdom to follow through, so either way, we are super dependent on God and that's the way He likes it.
Often times, not walking in constant fellowship with God is how we get into messy situations and then we turn around and blame God for it when it is 100% on us. As Children of God, It is sooo key that every decision we make is filtered through the lens of the Holy Spirit. He is our ultimate teacher and guide and tuning off from His frequency is like trying to explore a new city you know nothing about without a tour guide, a map, and clarity of purpose. Again, what can possibly go wrong?!
To act in line with the leading and promptings of the Holy Spirit is what it really means to have "Ordered Steps". It is the practical aspect of what we the bible means when it says "Your word oh Lord is a lamp unto my feet and light to my path." It is a show of faithfulness to God. Obedient Children don't go out doing or taking things without checking in with their parents and faithful servants don't move without receiving orders from their Master.
How then can we say that we are Sons of God or Servants of God when we go around making all sorts of decisions without first consulting Him? We enter into businesses, change jobs, partner with friends, enter into relationships, move churches and do everything else in-between solo. Then like babies, when we get into confusing or terrible situations, we cry out for help when we know what we should have done, to begin with. While this may be adorable for Kids, it's not so cute on your adult child and newsflash, God doesn't expect us to stay babies forever! He expects us to grow up! So just incase you were thinking it's cute O'clock it's really not. It's Obedience O'clock.
Time to wake up and be led by the very Spirit of God. Have a great evening, guys.
